Mansouri Holds Talks with Somali Foreign Affairs Minister

Algeria’s Secretary of State for African Affairs, Salima Bakhta Mansouri, held discussions on Sunday with the State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ali Mohamed Omar. The meeting took place in Algiers, on the sidelines of the international conference on ‘Criminalizing Colonialism in Africa’.

According to a statement from the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting provided an opportunity to review the state of relations between the two countries and explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation. The aim is to reflect the spirit of solidarity and partnership that binds Algeria and the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Both sides also exchanged views on key African issues on the agenda of the United Nations Security Council. They emphasized the importance of strengthening African coordination to defend common interests and consolidate approaches based on African solutions.

Furthermore, the two officials underscored the need to continue supporting just causes on the continent, primarily the issue of Western Sahara, considered the last case of decolonization in Africa. They affirmed that respect for international legitimacy and the right of peoples to self-determination are the cornerstones for establishing a just and lasting peace.

The discussions highlight Algeria’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong diplomatic ties and collaborative efforts with African nations, particularly in addressing shared challenges and promoting stability across the continent.
