Tiaret: Four People Poisoned by Carbon Monoxide

Four individuals in Tiaret are recovering after being poisoned by carbon monoxide fumes. The incident occurred in a residence located in the 1500 housing unit district within the municipality and district of Tiaret.

Civil Protection services responded to the emergency call this morning, Monday, at approximately 6:10 AM. Upon arrival, they discovered four victims suffering from the effects of carbon monoxide inhalation, which emanated from a faulty heating appliance inside the home.

The victims presented with symptoms including nausea and breathing difficulties. Emergency medical personnel administered initial first aid at the scene before transporting all four individuals to the local hospital for further treatment and observation. Their conditions are currently being monitored.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is a serious risk, especially during the colder months when heating appliances are in frequent use. Authorities urge residents to ensure proper ventilation and to regularly inspect and maintain all heating systems to prevent such incidents. Faulty or poorly maintained heating equipment can release dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, an odorless and colorless gas that can be fatal.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of carbon monoxide detectors in every home. These devices provide an early warning, allowing residents to evacuate and seek help before dangerous levels of the gas accumulate. Regular checks of heating systems and the installation of carbon monoxide detectors can significantly reduce the risk of poisoning and save lives.

DZWatch will continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available.
