Minister Saihi Meets with IOM Representative in Algeria

Algiers – Minister of Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Abdelhak Saihi, received the representative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Algeria, Ms. Lalini Veerassamy, at the ministry headquarters today, Tuesday.

During the meeting, both parties acknowledged the strong collaborative relationship existing between the Ministry and the IOM, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security. The discussions focused on ongoing projects and future cooperation initiatives aimed at addressing migration-related challenges and promoting the well-being of migrants in Algeria.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress made in various areas of collaboration, including capacity building, data collection, and the implementation of programs designed to protect vulnerable migrants. Minister Saihi reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to working closely with the IOM to ensure safe, orderly, and regular migration.

Ms. Veerassamy expressed her appreciation for the Algerian government’s support and cooperation in facilitating the IOM’s activities in the country. She highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in addressing the complex challenges associated with migration, particularly in the context of regional and global trends.

The discussions also touched upon the importance of promoting social inclusion and integration of migrants into Algerian society, as well as addressing the root causes of irregular migration. Both Minister Saihi and Ms. Veerassamy reiterated their commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of all migrants, regardless of their legal status.
