Ancelotti Issues Fitness Ultimatum to Vinicius Jr. for World Cup

Brazil’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, has delivered a stern message to star player Vinicius Junior regarding his readiness for the 2026 World Cup. Ancelotti emphasized that only players at 100% fitness will be considered for selection.

Vinicius Junior secured Brazil’s qualification with a decisive goal against Paraguay last June, ensuring their place in the tournament set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11th to July 19th, 2026. The Selecao are also scheduled to play a friendly match against France in Boston during the international break between March 23rd and 31st.

In an interview with a Brazilian sports program, Ancelotti stated that Vinicius’s absolute fitness is a non-negotiable requirement for inclusion in the final squad. “I have a clear standard with all players,” he explained. “Every player must be 100% ready. This isn’t just about Neymar or Vinicius.”

Ancelotti issued a similar warning to Neymar last October, stressing the importance of regaining full fitness before being considered for selection. He further elaborated, “If Vinicius is only 90% fit, I will favor another player who is completely ready. The level of competition within the national team is very high, especially in the attacking line, which boasts a significant number of talented players.”

Ancelotti’s unwavering stance highlights the intense competition and high standards within the Brazilian national team as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup. The coach’s emphasis on peak physical condition underscores the importance of every player being fully prepared to contribute to the team’s success on the global stage.
