State Secretary to the Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Karima Bekir Tafer, is currently participating in the international event “Resourcing Tomorrow” in London, taking place from December 1st to 4th. The event’s second day featured the official opening of the forum, bringing together ministers, government officials, international experts, and investors from leading mining nations.
Secretary Tafer attended the opening session, which focused on emerging global trends in mineral resource security, their role in supporting the global economy and the transition to clean energy, and the strategic challenges related to supply chains and critical minerals.
Alongside the general sessions, the State Secretary held bilateral meetings, including one with Andrew Foulstone, President of the UK’s Mining Association. This meeting centered on Algeria’s national strategy for developing the mining sector, particularly efforts to optimize the utilization of mineral resources across the value chain and expand investment in value-added manufacturing industries.
The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on potential cooperation, especially in the areas of knowledge transfer, modern technologies, the development of mineral processing, and the adoption of innovations related to the energy transition. Emphasis was placed on the importance of joint efforts to leverage leading international experiences in mineral valorization and the advancement of geological research capabilities.
Both parties agreed to continue exchanges and intensify coordination to explore practical and sustainable partnership opportunities, aligning with the new dynamism in Algeria’s mining sector and enhancing the country’s attractiveness for quality investments in this field. The focus is on fostering collaboration to enhance geological research and bolster manufacturing industries within the mining sector.
“Resourcing Tomorrow” is the flagship event of London Mining Week, attracting over 2,000 participants from major players in mining, energy, investment, and technology. This makes it a prominent international platform for developing partnerships and discussing the future of minerals and resources worldwide.
