Algiers, December 3, 2025 – Algeria and Belarus have reaffirmed the critical need for a fair and lasting resolution to the Western Sahara conflict, DZWatch has learned.
The announcement came during a joint press conference held today between Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko. President Tebboune reiterated Algeria’s firm stance that lasting peace in the Middle East is contingent upon a just solution that restores the full rights of the Palestinian people.
“There can be no peace in the Middle East without a just solution that returns to the Palestinian people their rights based on international legitimacy and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital,” President Tebboune stated.
Regarding the situation in Libya, both leaders emphasized the importance of a peaceful resolution through consensus and dialogue among Libyans, the holding of elections, and the rejection of foreign interference. They stressed the Libyan people alone should determine their future.
Concerning the Western Sahara, both parties underscored the necessity of a just political solution in accordance with international law, enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination. President Tebboune also expressed Algeria’s support for the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General.
The meeting further provided an opportunity to exchange views on the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict and its regional and international repercussions. Both presidents agreed on the need to promote dialogue and negotiations as a means to avoid escalation and reach a peaceful settlement based on international cooperation and the Charter of the United Nations. DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story.
