Algerian Police Chief Highlights Anti-Drug Strategy in Tunisia

Director General of Algerian National Security, Ali Badaoui, presented Algeria’s experience in combating drug trafficking at the 49th Conference of Arab Police and Security Leaders held in Tunisia on Wednesday. Badaoui led a delegation of senior officials from the General Directorate of National Security to the conference, which focused on the emerging trends and threats posed by synthetic drugs.

In his address to the participants, Badaoui outlined the Algerian police’s approach to drug control, emphasizing its alignment with the national strategy for preventing drug and psychotropic substance abuse, as approved by the country’s highest authorities. He noted that this strategy has enabled operational units of the National Security to achieve significant successes in the field, including the seizure of substantial quantities of synthetic drugs, particularly ecstasy tablets, primarily smuggled by land and sea. These efforts are coupled with intensified awareness campaigns aimed at educating citizens about these emerging crimes.

Badaoui also highlighted the Algerian police’s commitment to strengthening international and Arab cooperation through coordinated and timely information exchange. This collaboration is essential for effectively addressing transnational organized crime and all current security threats, including migrant smuggling, human trafficking, and cybercrime, particularly in light of advancements in artificial intelligence technologies.

He called for enhanced joint Arab security cooperation in response to the security threats facing the Arab region and the rise in various forms of crime, especially emerging crimes such as criminal networks specializing in the trafficking of synthetic drugs. He described these networks as a weapon in hybrid warfare that threatens the fabric of Arab societies.

Furthermore, Badaoui held bilateral meetings with the heads of police delegations from Sudan, Oman, Palestine, Yemen, and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol), focusing on matters of mutual police interest. The conference also recognized the Algerian police…
