Algeria and Belarus Sign Landmark Cooperation Agreements

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria and President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus oversaw the signing of several key agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) today, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

The signing ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace in Algiers, followed discussions between the two leaders as part of President Lukashenko’s official visit to Algeria. The agreements span a wide range of sectors, reflecting a commitment to deepen cooperation across various fields.

Key agreements include a MoU on industrial cooperation between the Algerian Ministry of Industry and the Belarusian Ministry of Industry, and an agreement on animal health. In the agricultural sector, a MoU was signed between the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture and the Belarusian Ministry of Agriculture and Food, focusing on collaborative agricultural initiatives.

Further agreements were signed to foster cooperation in accreditation between the Algerian Accreditation Body and the Belarusian State Accreditation Center. A MoU between the Algerian Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Startups and Micro-enterprises and the Belarusian Ministry of Economy aims to promote entrepreneurship.

The legal framework for cooperation was also strengthened with a MoU between the Algerian Ministry of Justice and the Belarusian Ministry of Justice. A significant agreement on scientific research, technological development, and innovation was also signed between the two governments.

In the field of education, a MoU on higher education was established between Algeria and Belarus. Looking ahead, a roadmap for promoting trade, economic, scientific, and technical cooperation between Algeria and Belarus for the period 2026-2027 was also formalized.

Notably, a military and technical cooperation agreement was signed between the Algerian and Belarusian governments, signaling a commitment to collaboration in defense-related matters.

These agreements underscore the commitment of both Algeria and Belarus to forge closer ties and explore mutually beneficial opportunities for collaboration in the years to come. This partnership is expected to boost economic growth and technological advancement in both countries.
