Algeria Sees Surge in New Business Registrations, Minister Says

The Minister of Internal Trade and Market Regulation, Amel Abdelatif, stated today that the internal trade sector has become a significant driver for job creation, particularly for young Algerians. Her remarks were made during the launch of the first national symposium on employment and the evaluation of unemployment benefits in Ben Aknoun.

The Minister emphasized that this trend aligns with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s economic strategy, which focuses on economic recovery, support for productive enterprises, and the encouragement of initiative and investment. These elements are considered fundamental pillars for building a strong and diversified economy, ultimately contributing to increased employment and reduced unemployment rates.

According to the Minister, new commercial spaces, distribution chains, e-commerce platforms, and specialized exhibitions are providing ample opportunities for young people. These opportunities include direct and indirect employment in areas such as transportation, warehousing, marketing, accounting, media, and digital services. She added that each new commercial project, expansion of a distribution chain, or launch of a service or digital company contributes to the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem of jobs.

Recent structural reforms within the sector have improved the business climate and allowed thousands of young investors to enter the national market. Official data indicates a substantial increase in the number of trade registrations for natural persons between the end of 2020 and December 4, 2025, reaching 2,146,150. Of these, 606,824 are businesses managed by young people aged 18 to 38. Furthermore, the number of trade registrations for legal entities increased to 274,094, with 79,480 of these belonging to young people in the same age bracket, highlighting the strong presence of youth in establishing startups and small to medium-sized enterprises.

The Minister also highlighted the opening of new economic fields for young people, including the circular economy and the updated list of activities related to waste collection and recycling. She further emphasized the facilitation of project creation through the National Trade Register Center, the encouragement of digital initiatives and e-commerce, and the ongoing development of a new law to regulate this activity to ensure professionalism and safety in the virtual market.

The role of the National Fairs and Export Company (SAFEX) in providing a platform for young people to showcase their products and services was also noted. The Minister confirmed that 47 exhibitions were organized this year, including 40 international exhibitions, contributing to the promotion of Algerian businesses.
