Algiers, Algeria – Two landmark agreements were signed yesterday in Algiers between Algerian entities and the Chinese company CGSpace, solidifying collaboration in space technology and satellite development. The agreements aim to bolster Algeria’s capabilities in satellite manufacturing and related technologies.
The signing ceremony, held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center during the African Telecommunications and Information & Communication Technologies Day, took place on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the African Startup Conference. The event was attended by the Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, and the Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli.
The first agreement, signed by the Director General of Algeria Telecom Satellite, Toufik Hantabli, and the CEO of CGSpace, Wang Yang, focuses on the development, manufacturing, and deployment of IT equipment related to satellites. This partnership seeks to enhance Algeria’s expertise in the field and establish a specialized satellite center fostering local applications, innovations, and sustainable resources. Discussions will also encompass commercial principles and key terms for investment and operational solutions related to satellite technology in Algeria.
Officials from Algeria Telecom Satellite indicated that this cooperation could potentially expand to other regions in Africa, building upon future business developments originating from Algeria.
The second agreement, signed by the Director General of the Algerian Space Agency, Azzedine Oussedik, and the CEO of the Chinese company, aims to strengthen cooperation in the manufacturing of low-orbit satellites. This initiative is poised to position Algeria as a leader in the African space sector.
Following the signing, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications emphasized the significance of these agreements in enhancing national capabilities, stimulating innovation, and enabling Algeria to become a continental leader in the space domain.
