Algeria and IAEA Strengthen Peaceful Nuclear Cooperation

Algeria is bolstering its partnership with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in the peaceful application of nuclear science and technology. Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held discussions via video conference with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi earlier today, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

These talks follow up on agreements made during Director General Grossi’s official visit to Algeria last October. The discussions focused on advancing collaborative initiatives between Algeria and the IAEA.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties signed a joint statement outlining cooperation between Algeria and the IAEA in the peaceful uses of nuclear science and technology. This statement aims to enhance technical assistance provided by the Agency to Algeria, particularly through conducting a study on the development of peaceful nuclear energy applications.

The joint statement highlights potential collaboration in key sectors, including electricity generation, healthcare, seawater desalination, and agriculture. This enhanced partnership underscores Algeria’s commitment to leveraging nuclear technology for sustainable development and improving the lives of its citizens.
