Algeria Races Against Time to Diversify Economy: Report

Algiers – Algeria is working diligently to complete its national development project and strengthen its economy by reducing reliance on hydrocarbons, according to a recent report.

The report highlights that this endeavor is a collective responsibility shared by all Algerians, especially as the nation undergoes significant economic and developmental transformations.

The year has been marked by substantial achievements across vital sectors, with the emergence of a new national economic model focused on diversifying income sources. Positive indicators have been noted in industry, agriculture, infrastructure, and social programs.

The report references statements made by the President, during a recent visit to Constantine, where he affirmed that Algeria has moved beyond disruptive influences and entered a phase of genuine progress. He emphasized the stable economic situation and projected that would mark the beginning of lasting stability and sustainable development.

The energy and mining sectors are central to Algeria’s strategy, with major projects like the Gara Djebilet iron ore project and the Bled El Hadba phosphate project in Tebessa expected to significantly boost national exports and strengthen Algeria’s position in international markets for strategic minerals.

The report also acknowledges the importance of supporting infrastructure, including the Bechar-Tindouf mining railway line, soon to be operational, and the Tebessa-Annaba connection for phosphate transport. Gains in water security, particularly through seawater desalination plants providing stable drinking water supplies, are also noted.

The report further indicates Algeria’s strong commitment to supporting emerging enterprises, which are considered key to the country’s economic future.
