Arab League Condemns Raid on UNRWA Headquarters in Jerusalem

Cairo – The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has strongly condemned the raid by Israeli occupation forces on the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in East Jerusalem.

In a statement released Tuesday, the Secretary-General described the incident as “another link in a continuous chain” of actions taken by the occupation forces aimed at undermining the UN agency’s role and dismantling its mandate to protect the rights of Palestinian refugees.

“This blatant violation of international law and the sanctity of UN facilities is a dangerous escalation that demands immediate international attention,” Aboul Gheit stated. He further emphasized that the raid represents a deliberate attempt to pressure UNRWA and disrupt its crucial services to millions of Palestinian refugees across the region.

The Arab League views this action as part of a broader campaign by the occupation forces to delegitimize UNRWA and ultimately eliminate the refugee issue from the international agenda. “Such actions will not deter the Arab League from continuing its unwavering support for the Palestinian cause and the rights of Palestinian refugees,” the Secretary-General affirmed.

Aboul Gheit called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take immediate and decisive measures to hold the occupation forces accountable for their actions and to ensure the protection of UNRWA and its personnel. He stressed the importance of safeguarding the agency’s ability to fulfill its vital humanitarian mandate without intimidation or obstruction.

The incident has further heightened tensions in the already volatile region, raising concerns about the potential for further escalation and the impact on the lives of Palestinian refugees who rely on UNRWA for essential services such as education, healthcare, and social support.
