Tindouf Iron Processing Plants to Create 500 Jobs

Tindouf, Algeria – The development of two iron processing units in Tindouf will generate 500 direct jobs, according to an announcement made by Karima Bakir Tafer, Secretary of State in charge of Mines within the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines.

During a visit to Tindouf on Wednesday, Ms. Tafer emphasized the government’s commitment to prioritizing local youth in the hiring process for these new positions. The processing units are linked to the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, a major project aimed at boosting Algeria’s iron and steel industry.

“These 500 jobs represent a significant opportunity for the young people of Tindouf,” stated Ms. Tafer. “We are committed to ensuring that they are given priority access to these employment opportunities.”

The Gara Djebilet mine is a cornerstone of Algeria’s strategy to diversify its economy and reduce its reliance on hydrocarbons. The establishment of these processing units in Tindouf will not only create jobs but also contribute to the development of a local iron and steel industry, adding value to the raw materials extracted from the mine.

The project falls under the purview of the Ministry of Energy and Mines and the Ministry of Public Works and Basic Infrastructure, highlighting the collaborative effort to ensure its success. The government views the Gara Djebilet project and its associated processing facilities as crucial for the economic development of the Tindouf region and the country as a whole.

Further details regarding the specific skills and qualifications required for these positions are expected to be released in the coming weeks. Local authorities are working closely with the Ministry of Labor to ensure that training programs are available to equip residents with the necessary skills to take advantage of these new employment opportunities.
