Algeria and Tunisia Discuss Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

Algiers, December 12, 2025 – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrib held talks with Tunisian Head of Government, Sarah Zaafarani Zenzeri, in Tunis today. The meeting took place at the Kasbah Government Palace as part of the 23rd session of the Algerian-Tunisian Joint High Commission for Cooperation.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s office, the bilateral discussions focused on the current state and future prospects of relations between Algeria and Tunisia, with emphasis on strengthening cooperation across various sectors.

The discussions were expanded to include delegations from both countries. The meeting included a review of the report from the Follow-up Committee, whose work was conducted yesterday under the leadership of Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, and his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti. The report highlighted preparatory work for the Joint High Commission meeting at the expert and ministerial levels, as well as key agreements and proposals related to promoting fraternal ties and bilateral cooperation in all fields.

During the expanded session, Prime Minister Ghrib delivered a speech emphasizing that the convening of this session reflects the directives of the leaders of both countries, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Kais Saied, particularly to elevate relations between the two nations to the level of a strategic, integrated and mutually supportive partnership.

Sifi Ghrib also praised the continuous and intensive coordination between the two countries in addressing various security threats, especially in securing the common borders. This aims to reduce the risks of terrorism, transnational organized crime, illegal immigration, smuggling in its various forms, and drug trafficking.

On the economic front, the Prime Minister affirmed that both countries possess significant human and material resources and multiple avenues for economic integration, enabling them to build productive and mutually beneficial bilateral partnerships in various fields. He noted that this could be achieved through the adoption of a clear roadmap and the establishment of practical mechanisms with a clear timeline for implementing cooperation projects in vital and priority sectors.

The Tunisian Head of Government welcomed the convening of this session of the Joint High Commission, praising the distinguished relations between the two countries and peoples, and commending the keenness of their leaders, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and President Kais Saied, to develop these relationships further.
