Bejaia, Algeria – December 12, 2025 – Algerian customs officials have successfully thwarted a major drug smuggling operation at the Port of Bejaia, seizing a substantial quantity of ecstasy pills originating from France. The operation took place at the “Hadj Haddad” maritime terminal, where vigilant inspectors uncovered the illicit cargo.
According to a statement released by the customs authority, a total of 41,722 ecstasy pills were discovered meticulously concealed within 24 cans of preserved food. The contraband was hidden within the luggage of a passenger traveling in a commercial vehicle arriving from the French port of Sète via a foreign vessel.
The seized narcotics and the vehicle used in the attempted smuggling have been impounded. The suspect has been arrested and is currently being processed for presentation before the relevant judicial authorities.
This successful interception underscores the unwavering commitment of Algerian Customs, in collaboration with various state entities, to implementing the national strategy for combating smuggling and organized crime.
