Bejaia Customs Foil Ecstasy Smuggling Attempt at Port

Bejaia, Algeria – Customs officials at the Port of Bejaia have successfully intercepted a significant quantity of ecstasy pills being smuggled into the country. The operation took place at the “Hadj Haddad” maritime station, where inspectors discovered over 41,000 tablets of the illicit drug concealed within canned goods.

According to a statement released by the General Directorate of Customs, the 41,722 ecstasy pills were meticulously hidden inside 24 cans. These cans were then placed among the personal belongings of a passenger arriving from the French port of Sète aboard a foreign vessel. The passenger was traveling in a commercial vehicle.

The successful seizure resulted in the confiscation of the prohibited narcotics and the vehicle used in the attempted smuggling operation. The individual involved has been apprehended and handed over to the relevant judicial authorities. He now faces legal proceedings.
