Heavy Rains and Snowfall Expected Across Algeria This Week

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria is bracing for a period of unsettled weather, with heavy rains and significant snowfall expected across various regions starting Monday, December 23rd, and continuing through Wednesday, December 25th.

Weather models indicate that the northern, western, and central regions of the country will experience widespread rainfall. Some southern provinces may also be affected. Snowfall is anticipated in the interior highlands, beginning on Tuesday.

The southern regions, including Tamanrasset, In Salah, Adrar, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Bechar, Beni Abbes, and Timimoun, are forecast to receive rainfall during this period. Snowfall is expected to continue on the Antar mountains on Monday.

Eastern areas, including Tebessa, Guelma, Souk Ahras, Touggourt, El Oued, Ouargla, and Illizi, are also predicted to experience rainfall starting Monday. The central Sahara and southeastern regions are expected to see continuous rain into Wednesday.

Starting Tuesday evening, rainfall is expected to extend to the north-central and eastern regions, affecting provinces such as Algiers, Blida, Tipaza, Djelfa, M’Sila, Bejaia, and Jijel. Higher elevations in Aflou, Djelfa, and Batna may experience snowfall.

A low-pressure system originating from northwestern Europe is expected to impact the north-central and eastern regions in the coming days, bringing rain and snow. This weather system’s influence may extend southward, particularly affecting Bechar, Timimoun, Tindouf, and Beni Abbes.

Temperatures are expected to be low, ranging from 3 to 10 degrees Celsius in the north and 5 to 15 degrees Celsius in the south. The sea along the coastline is expected to be calm to slightly disturbed.
