Cabinet Meeting Yields Key Decisions on Pensions, E-Commerce

Algiers – A meeting of the Council of Ministers, chaired by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, resulted in several significant decisions concerning pensions, administrative divisions, and the national strategy for e-commerce development.

Following a review of the agenda and a summary of the previous Council of Ministers’ decisions, Prime Minister presented a report on governmental activities over the past two weeks. The President then issued directives and instructions on the following matters:

Pension Increases: The Council approved a 10% increase for retirees receiving pensions equal to or less than 20,000 Algerian dinars. A 5% increase was approved for those receiving more than 20,000 dinars. These increases build upon previous adjustments to the guaranteed minimum wage.

New Administrative Districts: The Council of Ministers approved the creation of two new administrative districts: Maghnia and El Eulma.

National E-Commerce Strategy: President Tebboune emphasized that e-commerce presents a significant challenge that requires collective effort to achieve economic goals. He stressed the importance of utilizing necessary resources, particularly ensuring digital security, promoting greater facilitation, and encouraging trade in this sector. The President stated that commercial transparency is the primary objective and the true outcome of digitalization and trade.

General Directives:

The President ordered a strict prohibition on demolishing illegal housing during the winter season. He mandated the immediate suspension of mayors who resort to such measures during the winter months, disregarding Algerian laws and international norms. Governors are instructed to ensure that any such operations are conducted within the established legal frameworks.

The Ministers of Agriculture and Interior were instructed to coordinate efforts to prevent farmers from incurring losses due to the spoilage of agricultural products. This includes utilizing strategic storage to maintain price stability.
