Algerian Authorities Foil Two Drug Trafficking Attempts

Algerian customs officials, in collaboration with the People’s National Army and the National Gendarmerie, have successfully thwarted two separate attempts to smuggle significant quantities of processed cannabis, totaling 37 kilograms.

According to a statement released by the customs services, the first operation took place within the jurisdiction of the Regional Directorate of Customs in Setif. This operation led to the seizure of 23.72 kilograms of processed cannabis. The drugs were meticulously concealed inside the cavities of a commercial vehicle.

The second operation occurred within the area of responsibility of the Regional Directorate of Customs in Bechar. In this instance, authorities seized 13.88 kilograms of processed cannabis. The contraband was hidden amidst the rugged terrain near the border strip.

Both the seized narcotics and the vehicles used in the attempted smuggling operations have been impounded. Those implicated in these criminal activities have been arrested and handed over to the competent judicial authorities for the necessary legal procedures.

These successful operations underscore the ongoing vigilance and coordinated efforts of Algerian security forces in combating drug trafficking and maintaining border security. The Algerian government remains committed to fighting all forms of organized crime and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
