Algiers, December 16, 2025 – Algeria and Chad are exploring avenues to broaden their bilateral partnership, particularly in the hydrocarbons and mining sectors. This development follows a meeting held today between Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, and Chad’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye.
The meeting, which took place in Algiers, included a high-level Chadian delegation comprising officials from the Chadian Hydrocarbons Corporation, the Chadian Petroleum Corporation, and the National Chadian Mining Exploration and Marketing Company. Representatives from Chad’s Petroleum Sector Regulatory Authority and the Higher Chadian Petroleum Institute, along with senior officials from the Algerian energy and mining sector and representatives from the Chadian Embassy in Algeria, were also in attendance.
Discussions centered on the current state of Algerian-Chadian relations and prospects for future development. Both parties emphasized the strong fraternal and historical ties between the two countries. The primary focus was on identifying ways to expand bilateral partnerships in hydrocarbons and mining, within a framework of South-South cooperation and enhanced African integration.
Minister Arkab presented a comprehensive overview of Algeria’s hydrocarbons and mining sector development program, highlighting recent legal and regulatory reforms designed to improve the investment climate, enhance transparency, and increase efficiency. He affirmed Algeria’s readiness to share its expertise and experience to support partnerships with fellow African nations, especially Chad.
The discussions also covered potential collaboration across the entire hydrocarbons value chain, from exploration and production to transportation, refining, and petrochemicals. Opportunities for marketing petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas were explored, emphasizing the importance of strengthening partnerships between Sonatrach and Chadian institutions. The need to intensify training and capacity-building programs, leveraging Algerian expertise, was also underscored.
In the mining sector, the two sides explored cooperation in exploration, exploitation, and processing of mineral resources, and marine research.
