Batna, Algeria – A fire in an apartment building in Batna has left sixteen people injured, according to local authorities. The blaze broke out on the ground floor of a nine-story residential building located in the Ben Blat neighborhood of Batna municipality and district.
The General Directorate of Civil Protection reported that emergency services responded to the incident at 1:39 PM local time. Firefighters worked to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building.
Cooling operations are still underway as emergency responders continue to assess the scene. Paramedics provided on-site medical assistance to the injured before transporting them to a local hospital for further treatment.
The Civil Protection deployed significant resources to combat the fire, including three fire trucks and three ambulances. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Authorities are working to determine the extent of the damage to the apartment building and to ensure the safety of residents before they return to their homes.
