December 17, 2025 – Several regions of Algeria are bracing for a period of inclement weather, with snow and rainfall predicted across multiple provinces. The National Meteorological Office issued a level two weather alert, warning residents to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions.
According to the alert, snowfall is expected to impact the provinces of Tlemcen, Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, and Naama, beginning this morning and continuing until 11:00 PM tonight. Snow accumulation is forecast to range between 5 and 10 centimeters in these areas. Residents are advised to exercise caution while travelling and to be aware of potential disruptions to transportation.
Further snowfall is anticipated in the provinces of Tiaret, El Bayadh, and Laghouat. In these regions, accumulations are expected to be more significant, ranging from 10 to 20 centimeters. The snowfall is predicted to continue until dawn tomorrow, Thursday. Motorists in these areas should be particularly vigilant and consider postponing non-essential travel.
In addition to the snowfall, the National Meteorological Office has also issued a separate alert for rainfall in the provinces of Saida, El Menia, and Ghardaia. The rainfall is expected to begin around midday today and persist until tomorrow morning. While the alert level for rainfall is lower than that for snowfall, residents are still advised to take necessary precautions, such as avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding.
