Algeria to Provide Energy Assistance to Chad

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria is poised to significantly enhance its energy cooperation with Chad, potentially providing crucial support to the Central African nation’s energy sector. The announcement follows a high-level meeting in Algiers between Algerian and Chadian energy ministers.

Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal, welcomed Chad’s Minister of Petroleum, Mines, and Geology, Ndolenodji Alixe Naïmbaye, to Algiers on Wednesday. The Chadian delegation’s visit underscores Chad’s desire to strengthen bilateral partnerships, particularly within the African continent.

Discussions centered on deepening collaboration in the fields of energy and renewable energy. Minister Adjal highlighted Algeria’s extensive expertise in energy production, transmission, and distribution, including electricity and gas. He also emphasized Algeria’s advancements in electrical and gas industries, gas turbine manufacturing, and its growing capabilities in nuclear energy for medical applications. Algeria’s experience in renewable energy and green hydrogen was also presented as a potential area for cooperation.

“Algeria is committed to accelerating cooperation with Chad in the field of energy and renewable energy,” stated Minister Adjal, emphasizing the desire for a more dynamic and effective partnership.

Minister Naïmbaye expressed strong interest in Algeria’s energy development model, noting its relevance to Chad’s economic and developmental context. She specifically addressed the challenges Chad faces due to its weak electrical grid, expressing a desire to leverage Algerian expertise to improve the situation.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish joint working groups. These groups will be tasked with developing a draft memorandum of understanding, which will serve as the foundation for a roadmap to implement concrete cooperative projects between the two nations. This agreement signals a significant step toward solidifying energy ties between Algeria and Chad.
