Seven activists affiliated with the Palestine Action movement are reportedly in critical condition after engaging in a hunger strike for over 40 days in British prisons. The activists were arrested for showing solidarity with Gaza.
One of the hunger strikers allegedly suffered a seizure due to elevated blood sugar levels, raising serious concerns about their deteriorating health. The activists have been detained for over a year without formal charges, prompting demonstrations outside prisons and the Ministry of Justice.
Families of the detained activists are demanding that their cases be addressed in criminal courts rather than terrorism courts. They argue that the current legal proceedings are unjust and disproportionate. Despite the worsening conditions of the hunger strikers, the government has reportedly refused to meet with their legal representatives.
The ongoing hunger strike has drawn attention to the activists’ prolonged detention and the circumstances surrounding their arrest. Supporters argue that their activism, which is focused on protesting actions related to Gaza, should not warrant such lengthy pre-trial detention without clear charges.
The situation remains tense as the health of the activists continues to decline, and calls for their release or a fair trial grow louder. This situation is developing and DZWatch will continue to provide updates.
