Algeria experienced a tragic 24-hour period, with 14 individuals losing their lives in traffic accidents and gas asphyxiation incidents across several provinces, according to the General Directorate of Civil Protection.
Civil Protection units responded to a staggering 2,913 interventions during the same period, averaging an intervention every 29 seconds. These interventions addressed a wide array of emergencies, highlighting the intense workload faced by first responders across the nation.
Of significant concern were the numerous traffic accidents reported. A total of 170 traffic accidents were recorded, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to 204 others. The injured received on-site first aid before being transported to local hospitals for further treatment. The Civil Protection urges drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, particularly during periods of increased traffic flow and adverse weather conditions.
In addition to traffic-related incidents, gas asphyxiation also claimed lives. Civil Protection units responded to 10 separate incidents of gas inhalation, providing assistance to 15 individuals. Sadly, 3 fatalities were recorded as a result of these incidents. Authorities are reminding citizens of the critical importance of maintaining proper ventilation in homes and regularly checking gas appliances for leaks, especially during the colder months when gas heating is more frequently used.
The General Directorate of Civil Protection continues to emphasize the importance of preventative measures to minimize the risk of both traffic accidents and gas-related incidents. They encourage citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize safety in all aspects of daily life.
