Israeli Forces Conduct Incursion in Daraa Countryside

Israeli forces conducted an incursion into the western countryside of Daraa province in southern Syria early Monday morning. The operation involved establishing a temporary military checkpoint, hindering the movement of local residents.

According to reports, the Israeli forces entered the area between the villages of Ma’araba and Abdeen, setting up the checkpoint at a location known as “Al-Muqassam.” This action represents a further violation of Syrian sovereignty.

The mayor of Abdeen and Ma’araba, Muwaffaq Mahmoud, stated that the incursion occurred in the early hours of the morning, severely restricting the movement of citizens between the two villages and negatively impacting their daily lives. As of Monday morning, there has been no official statement or clarification from the Israeli side regarding this operation.

This recent incursion is part of a series of repeated Israeli operations in the western Daraa countryside. These operations often involve the establishment of temporary military checkpoints aimed at restricting local residents and disrupting their freedom of movement.

Military activity has reportedly intensified in recent days. On Sunday, the Israeli army carried out three incursions in and around Quneitra province in southwestern Syria.

These actions occur despite assertions that the current Syrian government does not pose a direct threat to Israel. The Israeli military continues to conduct airstrikes, resulting in civilian casualties and the destruction of Syrian military sites and equipment.

Indirect talks are reportedly underway between Damascus and Tel Aviv to reach security understandings. Syria is demanding a return to the pre-December 8, 2024, status quo. Israel previously declared the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria and seized control of the Syrian buffer zone, exploiting the security vacuum. Israel has occupied most of the Golan Heights since 1967.
