Annaba, Algeria – The National Gendarmerie in Annaba has successfully dismantled a criminal network specializing in fraud and deception carried out through social media platforms. The operation, led by units of the regional group, utilized advanced information and communication technologies.
The investigation was launched following a complaint filed by a citizen with the National Gendarmerie in Berrahal. The victim reported being defrauded through a fake online page impersonating a well-known truck sales company. The network’s methods involved luring victims through various stages, ultimately requesting images of their debit cards and withdrawing agreed-upon sums without their knowledge.
Upon receiving the complaint, the Gendarmerie initiated an investigation, employing advanced search and investigation techniques. This led to the identification of all members of the criminal network, which was found to have defrauded victims from across several Algerian provinces. After completing the necessary legal procedures, the investigation was expanded to include multiple regions.
This expanded operation resulted in the arrest of all network members and the seizure of evidence, including mobile phones, electronic chips, prepared postal checks, and debit cards. Investigations revealed that the network had processed financial transactions exceeding two hundred million Algerian dinars in a short period.
The operation led to the arrest of five suspects who are scheduled to be presented before the competent judicial authorities upon completion of the investigations. DZWatch will continue to follow this developing story.
