Oum El Bouaghi – Minister of Water Resources, Taha Derbal, commenced a working visit to the province of Oum El Bouaghi on Monday, focusing on the state of the region’s water sector. He received a comprehensive presentation from the provincial director of water resources at the Islamic Cultural Center.
The presentation covered the public water service, with a strong emphasis on providing citizens with potable water, sanitation, and irrigation for agriculture, given the province’s significant agricultural character. Efforts to protect against flood risks were also highlighted.
The Minister stressed the need for proactive planning and the implementation of modern management techniques, particularly through enhanced digitization and remote monitoring systems. He also underscored the importance of combating illegal connections and leaks to ensure the quality of public services and meet citizen expectations.
Derbal issued directives for the reuse of treated wastewater as a secondary, non-conventional source of irrigation. He also called for the optimization of sanitation facilities to safeguard public health and protect the environment.
The Minister’s visit signals a renewed commitment to sustainable water management practices in Oum El Bouaghi, leveraging technology and innovative solutions to address the region’s water needs and challenges.
