Miami, FL – Negotiations aimed at resolving the nearly four-year conflict in Ukraine are approaching a “real result,” according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. His statement follows discussions held in Miami with the United States and European nations.
Zelenskyy highlighted the ongoing work between Ukraine and the United States, suggesting a significant step towards de-escalation. He told Ukrainian diplomats that negotiators are working on a 20-point plan proposed by U.S. envoys. While acknowledging the plan isn’t perfect, he emphasized its existence as a tangible framework for discussion.
Ukrainian negotiators, led by Rustem Umerov, along with European representatives, held a series of meetings with U.S. officials in Florida. Simultaneously, Kirill Dmitriev, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy for investment, conducted separate talks with American officials in the same location. Both Ukrainian and Russian teams will return to their respective countries to report on the discussions.
“The key issue is whether the United States is able to get a response from Russia, and a real readiness on its part to focus on something other than aggression,” Zelenskyy said in his nightly video address. He stressed the importance of maintaining pressure on the Kremlin to limit Russia’s capacity to wage war.
Meanwhile, Russia has voiced opposition to a temporary ceasefire. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stated that such an option would not contribute to progress in resolving the crisis. Moscow views the Miami discussions with the U.S. regarding conflict resolution as not representing a breakthrough.
The contrasting statements highlight the complexities and challenges ahead in finding a lasting resolution to the conflict. DZWatch will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as they unfold.
