Algiers – Algeria’s state grain board, the Office Algérien Interprofessionnel des Céréales (OAIC), has reportedly purchased durum wheat through an international tender held earlier this week. Trade sources indicate the deal was finalized on Tuesday, although the total volume acquired remains unconfirmed.
Initial estimates suggest a purchase price of approximately $315 per tonne, Cost and Freight (C&F), for larger shipments transported via Panamax vessels. Smaller shipments, utilizing Handymax vessels, are estimated to have been secured at around $325 per tonne.
The tender specifications outline four distinct shipping windows throughout 2026. The first period spans from February 1st to February 15th, followed by a second window from February 16th to February 28th. Subsequent shipping periods are scheduled for March 1st to March 15th, and finally, March 16th to the end of March.
Algeria typically does not release official results from its grain import tenders. Therefore, market information is primarily based on estimates from traders. Further details regarding the final prices and quantities purchased are expected to emerge in the coming days.
