Civil Protection Responds to Severe Weather in Oran

The Civil Protection Directorate of Oran, under the supervision of Provincial Director Colonel Souiki Mahfoud, has mobilized all operational units to address the recent severe weather conditions. This includes deploying reconnaissance patrols across all roads and streets within the municipalities and districts of the province.

Teams responded swiftly to reports of accumulated rainwater in various locations. Notably, they addressed flooding at the main entrance of the Djaâ plant due to rising water levels in the Tafraoui River. Fortunately, no casualties or material damage were reported in that incident. Civil Protection units also pumped water from a residence near the Boufatis municipal stadium and relocated a family of five to a municipal shelter.

According to the Civil Protection, water was drained from Provincial Road 41, which connects Boufatis and Oued Tlelat. Emergency personnel rescued and evacuated 27 passengers from a stranded bus, as well as two individuals trapped in a tree along the same route. Furthermore, teams intervened to remove water from 15 illegally constructed homes in the village of Fellaoucene, Bousfer municipality.

Civil Protection units also addressed a partial soil erosion incident on Abd Rahman Ahmed Street in the Ras El Ain neighborhood, securing the area with a security detail. Water accumulation was cleared from National Road 11 near the Pépinière roundabout, and stranded vehicles were freed in Bir El Djir municipality. Additional interventions focused on water removal in the T’hahtaha neighborhood and along the Third Avoidance Road near the Bahia passenger transport station in Oran municipality.

The Civil Protection services confirmed that no casualties or material losses have been reported. They emphasized the continued readiness of their units to intervene immediately should weather conditions deteriorate further. Civil Protection remains on high alert to ensure the safety and security of citizens throughout the province.

The Directorate urges residents to exercise caution and report any weather-related incidents to the emergency services immediately.
