DZWatch Exclusive: The National Meteorology Office has issued a severe weather warning for several regions across Algeria, effective this evening. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall and significant snowfall are anticipated.
A special orange alert has been issued for the following provinces: Tiaret, Northern El Bayadh, Laghouat, Djelfa, and Medea. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms and rainfall amounts ranging from 20 to 30 millimeters locally. The precipitation is forecast to begin at 3:00 PM today, Thursday, and continue until 1:00 AM tomorrow, Friday.
Other provinces, including M’Sila, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Setif, and Batna, are also bracing for heavy rainfall. The downpour is expected to commence at 9:00 PM this evening and persist until 9:00 AM tomorrow morning, with similar rainfall accumulations anticipated.
In addition to the rainfall, the National Meteorology Office has warned of heavy snowfall in mountainous areas exceeding 1200 meters in altitude. The affected provinces include Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Bordj Bou Arreridj, and M’Sila. Snow accumulations are projected to range from 10 to 15 centimeters, beginning at 9:00 PM this evening and continuing until 12:00 PM tomorrow, Friday.
Furthermore, the provinces of Setif, Batna, and Khenchela are expected to experience snowfall starting at 3:00 AM on Friday and lasting until 3:00 PM on the same day. Residents in these areas are advised to monitor weather updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
