Algiers Named Permanent Headquarters of African Health & Relief Union

Algiers, Algeria – Algeria has been chosen as the permanent headquarters for the African Union of Health and Relief Associations, marking a significant step in continental collaboration. The decision was reached at the conclusion of the Second International Conference on Women’s Health, hosted at the Djamaa El-Djazaïr Cultural Center from December 18th to 20th.

The conference, organized by the Nadjat Humanitarian Association, culminated in a series of key recommendations focused on bolstering preventative healthcare through intensified vaccination campaigns and early detection programs for chronic diseases and cancers. Participants also emphasized the importance of enhancing healthcare services by improving the quality of care, activating multidisciplinary scientific councils, and investing in the training of medical personnel.

Furthermore, the recommendations highlighted the need to strengthen African cooperation in health and relief efforts by coordinating activities among specialized associations and organizations. The adoption of flexible health systems capable of responding to epidemics and health emergencies was also stressed, along with the promotion of partnerships between African civil society organizations.

Conference participants affirmed that these recommendations serve as a practical roadmap for improving the health of African women, expanding health awareness, and strengthening humanitarian work across the continent. This reflects the commitment of Algeria and African health actors to building a healthier future for women.

The conference provided a valuable platform for in-depth discussions on key themes, with speakers emphasizing the importance of encouraging scientific research, sharing expertise, and creating opportunities for young researchers through specialized scientific and medical forums.

In a pivotal move, participants unanimously endorsed the “Algiers Declaration,” formally establishing the African Union of Health and Relief Associations as a unified framework for coordination and joint action among health and relief actors in Africa. This declaration designates Algiers as the permanent seat of the Union.

The conference concluded with a renewed commitment to translate its outcomes into practical programs and plans that contribute to improving women’s health and strengthening health and relief efforts throughout the African continent. Appreciation was expressed to the organizers, supporters, and all participants for their valuable contributions to the service of human health and dignity.
