Tindouf, Algeria – Sonarem, Algeria’s national mining company, announced Friday the successful completion of its first major blasting operation at the Gara Djebilet iron ore mine. The operation, conducted under the supervision of the National Explosives Office, marks a significant step forward in the exploitation of the massive iron ore deposit located in the Tindouf province.
The blasting was carried out by FERAAL, the iron and steel subsidiary of the Sonarem group. According to a statement released by Sonarem, the operation was executed flawlessly, adhering to strict safety and security protocols. The blast resulted in the fragmentation of over 75,000 tons of iron ore.
Sonarem indicated that this initial blast will be followed by regular, monthly blasting operations. The increased ore production aims to bolster iron ore stockpiles, ensuring a consistent supply for processing and consumption in domestic steel plants. This initiative aligns with the President’s program to exploit and valorize Algeria’s mineral resources locally, reducing reliance on imports and fostering domestic industrial growth.
The company extended its gratitude to the workers of ONEX, ENG, and FERAAL for their collaborative spirit and effective coordination, which were instrumental in the success of this crucial operation. The development of the Gara Djebilet mine is a key pillar of Algeria’s economic diversification strategy.
