Syrian Security Blames SDF for Escalation in Aleppo

Aleppo, Syria – Internal Security forces in Aleppo have accused the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) of escalating tensions in the city following a series of incidents targeting security checkpoints.

Colonel Mohammad Abdul Ghani, head of Internal Security in Aleppo, stated that SDF snipers positioned in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh districts targeted an Interior Ministry checkpoint on Friday. The attack resulted in injuries to one security personnel.

Another Internal Security checkpoint in the Shihane roundabout, north of Aleppo, also came under fire, injuring one officer who was subsequently hospitalized. “The sources of fire were dealt with and silenced according to established protocols,” Colonel Abdul Ghani stated, urging civilians to stay away from areas of tension for their safety and to adhere to official instructions.

Colonel Abdul Ghani placed full responsibility on the SDF for any escalation or repercussions resulting from these violations. He emphasized that continued breaches of ceasefires and attacks on security points would be met with necessary measures.

Meanwhile, the SDF’s media center has accused what it described as “factions affiliated with the Damascus government” of deploying tanks and heavy machinery to the vicinity of the Ashrafieh district, in what they claim is an escalating move following an attack on an Internal Security checkpoint. The SDF holds these factions fully responsible for any consequences of this escalation.

These developments come days after deadly incidents in Aleppo, resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 15 others, mostly women and children, allegedly caused by indiscriminate shelling and sniper operations by SDF elements. Syrian authorities claimed to have neutralized the sources of fire at the time.

In a separate development, the Syrian Army reportedly downed SDF drones targeting its positions in the eastern Aleppo countryside on Friday, in what state media described as a new violation of the March 10 agreement.

Furthermore, several members of the Syrian Customs Authority were reportedly injured when unknown individuals opened fire on their patrol in the eastern Aleppo countryside on Thursday evening. An investigation has been launched to uncover the circumstances of the incident and apprehend those responsible.
