DZWatch Exclusive: Algeria is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures and widespread precipitation, with several regions expected to experience heavy thunderstorms and snowfall, according to the national weather service. The alert, issued earlier today, warns residents to take necessary precautions.
The initial wave of adverse weather is predicted to impact western provinces. Tlemcen, Naama, Bechar, and Sidi Bel Abbes are under a heavy rain advisory until 9 PM tonight. A separate alert indicates locally significant thunderstorms commencing midday and continuing until midnight for Saida, El Bayadh, and Tiaret.
Later this evening, beginning at 9 PM and lasting until dawn tomorrow, Medea, Laghouat, and Djelfa will be affected by locally significant thunderstorms.
Higher elevations in the west are expected to receive heavy snowfall. The initial warning covers the mountains of Tlemcen and Naama until 3 PM today. Additionally, the mountainous regions of Sidi Bel Abbes, Saida, El Bayadh, and Tiaret are forecast to experience heavy snowfall starting midday and continuing until midnight.
The weather service has also issued a separate warning for a prolonged period of intense cold, lasting until dawn tomorrow. The provinces of Tebessa, Khenchela, Batna, Setif, Bordj Bou Arreridj, Djelfa, Laghouat, El Bayadh, and Naama are urged to prepare for the sustained cold snap.
