Civil Defense Responds to Thousands of Emergencies Nationwide

Algeria’s Civil Defense units responded to 2,746 incidents across the country in the last 24 hours, averaging one intervention every 31 seconds. These interventions included 1,819 medical evacuations and 337 diverse operations in various provinces, prompted by emergency calls from citizens.

The Civil Defense’s activities spanned a wide range of emergencies, including traffic accidents, domestic incidents, medical assistance, fire suppression, and collaboration with security services.

Traffic Accidents: Civil Defense teams responded to 135 traffic accidents in several provinces. These accidents resulted in 3 fatalities and 156 injuries of varying severity. Injured individuals received on-site care and were transported to local hospitals. The most serious accidents occurred in M’Sila, Tiaret, and Sidi Bel Abbes.

In M’Sila, one person died and three were injured in a collision between a car and a truck on National Road 46. In Tiaret, one person died and three were injured when a car veered off the road and overturned on National Road 40. In Sidi Bel Abbes, one person died after being struck by a vehicle on National Road 07.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Civil Defense personnel provided first aid to 15 individuals suffering from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning caused by heating appliances and water heaters. The victims were transported to local hospitals in stable condition. Tragically, two deaths due to CO poisoning were reported in Laghouat and Tipaza. In Laghouat, a 28-year-old woman died from CO poisoning from a cooking stove. In Tipaza, a 65-year-old man died from CO poisoning from a water heater. The bodies were taken to hospital morgues.

Fires: Firefighters responded to two urban fires in Algiers and Biskra. No casualties were reported, and the fires were contained before they could spread.

These statistics underscore the ongoing efforts of the Civil Defense to ensure the safety and security of Algerian citizens and their property.
