Algiers, Algeria – December 28, 2025 – A graduation ceremony for 1672 correctional officer cadets is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the National School for Prison Administration Employees in Koléa. The Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals, Lotfi Boujemaa, will preside over the event.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Justice, the graduating classes include principal re-education officers, re-education officers, and re-education agents. Specifically, the cohort consists of 55 principal re-education officers, 88 re-education officers, and 1529 re-education agents. These individuals have completed a rigorous 12-month training program, which alternated between theoretical studies and practical application.
The training program is designed to align with ongoing reforms within the Algerian prison system. The curriculum focuses on modernizing the administrative and financial management of penal institutions. Furthermore, it emphasizes promoting educational, health, and psychological activities for inmates, with the ultimate goal of preparing them for successful social reintegration. This is all carried out while adhering to international standards for the protection and respect of human rights.
The Ministry highlighted the importance of this new generation of correctional officers in upholding the principles of rehabilitation and ensuring the fair and humane treatment of incarcerated individuals. The graduation marks a significant step towards a more modern and effective correctional system in Algeria.
