Gaza Stability Force Deployment Expected in January

Washington – An American official stated Monday that the formation of the international stability force for the Gaza Strip is proceeding as planned, with deployment expected early next year. The official indicated that planning and consultations are ongoing with several countries regarding their contributions to the force.

This international force is a key component of the Trump plan, which has served as the framework for the ceasefire in Gaza since October 10th of last year, following two years of intense conflict. The conflict resulted in widespread destruction across the Gaza Strip.

President Donald Trump stated last month that the arrival of the international stability force in the Gaza Strip was “very close.” He also issued a warning to Hamas, saying that the group would “face a big problem if they do not act in the way they pledged.” Trump further mentioned that “there are countries that have volunteered to intervene if there is a problem with Hamas or any other problem to deal with,” without naming these countries.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated last week that Washington desires to establish the transitional administration stipulated in the Trump plan – comprised of a peace council and a body of Palestinian technocrats – as soon as possible. This administration would govern Gaza prior to the deployment of the international security force, which was authorized under a UN Security Council resolution issued on November 17th of last year.

The deployment aims to bring long-term stability to the region following the devastating conflict and to facilitate the rebuilding process. The international community is closely monitoring the situation as preparations continue.
