Advanced Insulin Pens Enter Algerian Market

Boufarik, Algeria – A new era in diabetes treatment has begun in Algeria with the introduction of next-generation insulin pens by Saidal Group, in collaboration with Novo Nordisk. This initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening local pharmaceutical production.

The official launch ceremony, held at Novo Nordisk’s headquarters in Boufarik, Blida province, was attended by Saidal Group’s CEO, Nabila Benyagzer Mouloud Warath, Novo Nordisk Algeria’s General Manager, Hamza Benharkats, and other officials from both organizations.

According to a statement released by Saidal Group, preparations for this project commenced in September, involving intensive technical and institutional coordination. This collaboration culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, followed by a formal agreement in October. The ultimate goal is to achieve complete local production of insulin pens within Algeria.

The manufacturing process is expected to be based at Saidal’s Constantine unit, facilitating the localization of this essential medication and reducing reliance on imports. This aligns with Algeria’s broader strategy of achieving pharmaceutical sovereignty.

The agreement extends beyond manufacturing, incorporating the gradual integration of innovative treatment solutions developed by Novo Nordisk. This will ensure that Algerian patients benefit from modern and effective treatments that meet international standards for diabetes care.

Saidal Group has experienced substantial growth, with its turnover increasing from 12 billion dinars in 2023 to 24 billion dinars in 2024. Projections estimate a further rise to 35 billion dinars in 2025. This growth is attributed to the expansion of the group’s activities in the field of biotechnology drugs, particularly for cancer, hemophilia, and diabetes, as well as the launch of product development initiatives.

This partnership signifies a commitment to providing advanced healthcare solutions and reinforcing Algeria’s position as a regional leader in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
