Algeria Invests DZD 2.8 Billion in Scientific Research

Algiers – Algeria is increasingly positioning scientific research as a key driver of national economic growth, with significant investments directed towards fostering innovation and technological advancement. The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is spearheading this effort, focusing on integrating research institutions into the broader economic landscape.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Baddari, inaugurated the National Conference for Scientific and Technological Institutions on December 29, 2025, highlighting the government’s commitment to this strategic sector. Representatives from the Ministry of National Defense and various other ministerial departments were in attendance.

A key achievement has been the establishment of 80 executive partnerships centered around innovative projects, demonstrating a strengthened link between scientific research and productive economic sectors. This collaborative approach aims to translate research findings into tangible economic benefits.

Furthermore, the ministry has diligently tracked and valued 539 research outcomes in the national valuation register, including 127 technical and service products derived from these findings. This underscores the commitment to transforming scientific output into commercially viable products and services.

To bolster collaboration, 77 mixed and permanent research teams have been created, facilitating closer ties between research institutions and the economic sector. These teams are tasked with directing scientific efforts towards innovative projects with high returns.

The efforts of research business incubators have resulted in investments totaling DZD 2.8 billion, showcasing the capacity of scientific and technological institutions to actively contribute to stimulating the national economy and supporting innovative ventures. This substantial investment signals a growing confidence in the potential of Algerian research to fuel economic development.
