Netanyahu: Hamas Retains 20,000 Fighters, West Bank Control Needed

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that Hamas still possesses a significant fighting force in Gaza, despite ongoing military operations. He claimed the group maintains approximately 20,000 armed militants and tens of thousands of Kalashnikov rifles.

In an interview, Netanyahu stated that the objectives of the conflict, including the complete dismantling of Hamas, have not yet been fully realized. He emphasized the need for continued action to achieve these goals.

“Israel emerged from the multi-front war as the strongest nation in the Middle East,” Netanyahu declared, highlighting the country’s resilience in the face of regional challenges.

Addressing the possibility of an international force in Gaza, Netanyahu indicated that attempts to deploy such a force have not yet been successful. “We will give it a chance,” he added, suggesting a willingness to consider international involvement.

When questioned about transitioning to a second phase of ceasefire in Gaza, Netanyahu responded cautiously, stating, “I think we have to give it a chance.”

Furthermore, Netanyahu stated his commitment to preventing retaliatory actions in the West Bank, expressing a desire for peaceful coexistence between Israelis and Palestinians living in the region. However, he maintained that Israel must ultimately retain military control over the West Bank.

In a separate interview, Netanyahu affirmed his dedication to securing the return of all remaining hostages held in Gaza, “We will recover the remains of the last hostage in Gaza by any means,” he said.

Regarding Somaliland, Netanyahu stated that the region seeks to join the Abraham Accords and differs democratically from the rest of Somalia.

Netanyahu also issued a warning to Iran, stating, “We do not want escalation with Iran, and if it dares to target us, the consequences will be catastrophic for it.” He added that Tehran must accept the reality that it should not possess nuclear enrichment capabilities.
