Israeli forces conducted new raids in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, continuing violations of the ceasefire agreement that went into effect on October 10th of last year. The military activity targeted areas in the central and southern regions of the territory.
Reports indicate that Israeli airstrikes struck the eastern part of the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, as well as the city of Rafah in the south. Furthermore, it is alleged that Israeli forces detonated buildings within their areas of deployment northwest of Rafah.
Medical sources at Nasser Hospital reported that a Palestinian individual sustained injuries from Israeli drone fire outside of the occupation’s deployment zones in Bani Suheila, east of Khan Yunis. These incidents follow reports from Tuesday, where two young girls were killed, and several other Palestinians were injured by Israeli fire and the ongoing repercussions of the conflict.
The Israeli military also reportedly carried out seven demolition operations in areas under its control north of Rafah, and another east of Gaza City. The targeting of civilians in Gaza continues amid worsening conditions for displaced persons, exacerbated by a severe weather system impacting the region.
Israeli forces maintain control over the southern and eastern border strips of the Gaza Strip, as well as significant portions of northern Gaza, effectively occupying approximately 60% of the territory. Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect, numerous violations have been recorded, resulting in casualties. According to figures from the Government Media Office in Gaza, at least 418 Palestinians have been killed and 1,141 others injured since October 10th.
The conflict, which began on October 7th, 2023, has had a devastating impact on Gaza. Reports indicate over 71,000 Palestinians have been killed and 171,000 injured. Widespread destruction has affected approximately 90% of civilian infrastructure, with the United Nations estimating reconstruction costs at around $70 billion.
