President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to just causes worldwide, particularly the Palestinian and Sahrawi issues. In a speech delivered to the nation before a joint session of Parliament in Algiers, the President emphasized that Algeria’s diplomacy remains steadfast and unchanged.
“We stand with Palestine and will not abandon them, fearing no criticism,” President Tebboune declared, highlighting the ongoing suffering in Gaza and Algeria’s advocacy within the United Nations Security Council. He noted the recognition bestowed upon Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Benjama, with the National Order of Merit.
The President reiterated Algeria’s firm stance on the Western Sahara issue, emphasizing the importance of respecting the will of the people and their right to self-determination in accordance with international law. He expressed his regret regarding the situation in Libya, emphasizing that a solution must be Libyan-led and emerge from within the country. President Tebboune also reaffirmed Algeria’s strong fraternal ties with its African neighbors, especially in the Sahel region.
On the development front, the President instructed the Prime Minister to initiate projects to supply the provinces of Tindouf and Tamanrasset with potable water. He also highlighted achievements in southern Algeria in mining, solar energy, and railway transport. The Gara Djebilet iron ore mine, now a tangible reality, is the third-largest iron ore mine globally, with the first mining train expected to arrive in Oran from Gara Djebilet by the end of January. Plans are underway to increase phosphate production in the east of the country fivefold, ensuring safe transport of the product.
Domestically, President Tebboune affirmed the state’s commitment to continued reforms and development programs. He emphasized that reforms are an ongoing process aimed at strengthening governance for and by the people. He also lauded the Parliament’s active role and its use of constitutional powers in proposing legislation.
