Algeria and the African Energy Commission (AFREC) have convened to explore avenues for bolstering cooperation in the fields of energy, renewable energy, and energy efficiency. The meeting, led by the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mourad Adjal, and AFREC Executive Director, Rachid Ali Abdallah, focused on fostering investments and strategies for sustainable energy development across the continent.
Dr. Adjal emphasized Algeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with AFREC, highlighting the alignment of AFREC’s objectives with the current global energy landscape. He noted that energy management is a national priority and a cornerstone of Algeria’s energy security program, alongside the development of green hydrogen, solar energy, and enhanced energy efficiency.
“The Ministry is ready to dedicate all its resources to support this important continental body,” Dr. Adjal stated, emphasizing the potential for leveraging AFREC’s expertise in supporting various energy projects within Algeria’s sector action plan. He also highlighted the importance of knowledge sharing and collaborative efforts to achieve sustainable energy goals.
Mr. Abdallah reaffirmed AFREC’s readiness to enhance collaboration with the Algerian Ministry, offering expertise and experiences in developing energy development programs. He emphasized the importance of working together to address the energy challenges facing the African continent.
Looking ahead, Dr. Adjal announced plans for a working meeting in the coming days to review the current state of cooperation with AFREC and to define future areas of collaboration. This roadmap will extend to 2026, outlining specific goals and strategies for joint initiatives in the energy sector. The meeting signals a strong commitment from both Algeria and AFREC to advancing sustainable energy solutions and fostering greater cooperation in the energy sector across the African continent. This partnership aims to unlock new opportunities for investment, innovation, and development in the energy sector.
