Trump Threatens Intervention in Iran Amid Protests, Tehran Responds

Tehran, Iran – Tensions have escalated following a warning from former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the ongoing protests in Iran. Trump suggested potential intervention if Iranian authorities use force against demonstrators, while Iranian officials have cautioned against any such action.

The protests, reportedly sparked by rising living costs and a declining local currency, have spread across several Iranian cities. Reports indicate clashes between protesters and security forces, with casualties reported.

Trump, posting on his social media platform, stated that the United States stands ready to act if Iran resorts to violence against peaceful protesters. “If Iran shoots and kills peaceful protestors, the U.S. will intervene to save them. We are ready to go!” he wrote.

In response, Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, warned Trump against interfering in Iran’s internal affairs, stating that such actions would destabilize the region and undermine U.S. interests. Larijani also cautioned the American people about the potential consequences of Trump’s actions. “The American people should know that Trump started this adventure, and they should be wary of their soldiers,” he stated. He also stated that the protests are being driven by foreign actors.

Ali Shamkhani, advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, echoed Larijani’s sentiment, calling any U.S. intervention a “red line” that would be met with a decisive response. “Iran’s national security is a red line and not a subject for reckless tweets,” Shamkhani wrote. “The Iranian people are well aware of the American ‘rescue’ experience. Any interventionist hand that touches Iran’s security with weak excuses will face a regretful reaction and will be cut off before it can reach its target.”

Reports indicate multiple fatalities, including deaths resulting from attacks on police stations in the Lorestan province. Additionally, unrest has been reported in other southwestern cities, with protesters allegedly targeting government buildings. Authorities reportedly used tear gas to disperse crowds, resulting in injuries. DZWatch continues to monitor the situation as it develops.
