Official Agreement Reached on Transport Fare Hike, Traffic Law Amendments

The National Union of Taxi Drivers announced Friday evening an agreement reached during a consultative meeting with the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Transport and mandated by the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, Said Saayoud, focused on addressing the professional concerns of transport workers.

According to a union statement, the meeting, which included the Head of the Minister’s Office, the Director-General of Mobility and Logistics, and representatives from various professional organizations and unions, was dedicated to hearing the grievances arising from the current state of the transport sector. Recent strikes and protests in several regions of the country underscored the urgency of these issues.

The Union confirmed that an agreement has been reached, with the blessing of senior state authorities, including the Minister of Interior, Local Authorities, and Transport, and the Prime Minister, to officially increase transport fares. Furthermore, the agreement includes amendments to the traffic law to better accommodate the specific needs and demands of transport professionals.

The discussions also covered support for the transport sector and the implementation of measures designed to improve the working conditions of professionals. It was emphasized that the draft traffic law remains under review as part of the established legislative process and is still open to revisions based on observations and proposals from social partners.

Regarding transport fares, it was noted that the study of this issue will consider the social aspect of public service and the citizen’s ability to pay, ensuring a balance between the interests of professionals and the rights of users. The authorities aim to find a solution that is fair for everyone.

In closing, the National Union of Taxi Drivers urged all its members and affiliates to resume work, contribute to the success of the school year, and act responsibly, prioritizing the national interest above all else. The Union affirmed that the channels of dialogue remain open within the established institutional frameworks to ensure the proper functioning of public services and serve the citizens effectively.
