Algiers, Algeria – Several western provinces of Algeria are bracing for significant weather disturbances, including heavy rainfall, strong winds, and intense sandstorms, according to the National Meteorological Office.
A special weather alert issued on Saturday indicates that the provinces of Naama, El Bayadh, Laghouat, Bechar, and Beni Abbes are expected to experience substantial rainfall, potentially exceeding 15mm in localized areas. The heavy precipitation is forecast to begin at 3:00 PM and continue until midnight, raising concerns about potential water accumulation and travel disruptions in certain regions.
DZWatch has learned that authorities are urging residents in the affected areas to exercise caution and take necessary precautions. The meteorological office specifically warns of potential difficulties in transportation due to the expected heavy downpours.
Furthermore, strong winds exceeding 60 km/h are predicted to impact Sidi Bel Abbes and Tlemcen throughout the day. These high winds necessitate increased vigilance, particularly for motorists and those planning outdoor activities.
The provinces of Bechar and Beni Abbes are also facing the threat of severe sandstorms that are expected to persist throughout the day. These sandstorms could significantly reduce visibility and impede traffic flow, adding to the already challenging weather conditions.
The National Meteorological Office strongly advises citizens to remain vigilant, especially while traveling, and to stay informed about the latest weather updates and forecasts as the situation evolves. DZWatch will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
