Reports: Maduro Detained After Airstrikes in Caracas

Caracas, Venezuela – Conflicting reports emerged Saturday regarding the status of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, following a series of reported airstrikes in the capital city, Caracas. Unconfirmed reports suggest President Maduro and his wife have been apprehended.

Early Saturday, loud explosions were reported across Caracas, accompanied by increased military air activity. Social media footage purportedly showed plumes of smoke rising after the explosions.

The Venezuelan government has accused the United States of launching a “grave military aggression” against various parts of the country, including the states of Caracas, Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira. An official statement indicated that President Maduro ordered the implementation of all national defense plans and called for social and political forces to mobilize in defense of the nation.

Witnesses reported hearing aircraft and loud noises, with smoke visible throughout the capital. Power outages were also reported in southern Caracas, near a major military base. Reports indicated heavy military aircraft activity at low altitudes, although the reasons for the air activity remain unclear.

The situation remains fluid and unconfirmed. DZWatch is continuing to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.
